Today Governor Josh Stein announced appointments to boards and commissions.
Governor Stein appointed the following to the Historic Bath Commission:

Marlene McCabe of Beaufort County as an at-large member. McCabe is a dedicated preacher, community leader, and public servant rooted in eastern North Carolina. A graduate of Fayetteville State University with a bachelor's degree in psychology, she brings spiritual guidance and practical insight to her work with individuals and families.
Governor Stein appointed the following to the Historic Hillsborough Commission:

Ebony F. Bryant of Orange County as an at-large member. Bryant brings more than 25 years of experience in higher education, pipeline programming, and professional development, including 15 years at Duke University School of Law.

Sheriff Charles S. Blackwood of Orange County as an at-large member. Sheriff Blackwood is a 45-year law enforcement veteran who was elected the 47th sheriff of Orange County in 2014. He serves as chair of the North Carolina Governor's Crime Commission and previously served as the president of the North Carolina Sheriffs' Association and chairman of its Executive Committee.

Elizabeth Frankenberg of Orange County as an at-large member. Frankenberg is the Cary C. Boshamer Distinguished Professor of Sociology and Public Policy and directs the Carolina Center for Population Aging and Health (CCPAH) at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Her research focuses on how health and social service environments shape individual well-being, how family interactions influence well-being, and how people respond to unexpected events.
Governor Stein appointed the following to the Justus-Warren Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention Task Force:

Paige Binfield of Wake County as an Eat Smart, Move More NC, Physical Fitness Representative. Binfield serves as president and chief executive officer of the North Carolina Alliance of YMCAs, representing 28 independently incorporated YMCAs across the state. She brings more than a decade of expertise in government relations, community health, philanthropy, and cross-sector partnerships.
Governor Stein appointed the following to the North Carolina Agriculture and Forestry Awareness Study Commission:

Alton Perry of Wake County as an at-large member. Perry is the director of Roanoke Cooperative's Sustainable Forestry and Land Retention Project. He empowers landowners to build wealth and lasting legacies through their forestland, supporting the cooperative's commitment to community growth.
Governor Stein appointed the following to the North Carolina Board for Licensing of Geologists:

Hillary Shoreland Goodell, PE, of Wake County as a public member. Goodell is an accomplished environmental engineer with more than 15 years of experience managing complex assessment and remediation projects in regulatory programs across multiple states and industry sectors. As the Southeast Operations Manager for ONE Environmental Group, she supports company growth and employee development while consistently delivering high-quality environmental consulting support to clients.
Governor Stein appointed the following to the North Carolina Board of Dietetics/Nutrition:

Dr. Eugene W. Leung of Wake County as a licensed physician. Dr. Leung is an associate chief medical information officer (CMIO) at WakeMed Health and Hospitals in Raleigh. He has spearheaded electronic health record (EHR) innovation as an Epic Physician Builder, addressing complex data challenges for WakeMed. He has collaborated with the CMIO to drive organizational-level informatics projects and implement technical electronic medical record (EMR) enhancements. Dr. Leung delivers emergent medical, surgical, and orthopedic care for patients of all ages.
Governor Stein appointed the following to the North Carolina Code Officials Qualification Board:

Jean D. Wooten-Jiles of Edgecombe County as an elected official of a city under 5,000 population. Wooten-Jiles brings more than 30 years of state government experience in managing federal grants and volunteers as the treasurer and grants manager for Truth Foundational Ministries CDC Inc., a local food pantry.
Governor Stein appointed the following to the North Carolina Commission on Volunteerism and Community Service:

Musheerah W. Ali of Robeson County as a representative of local labor organizations in the state. Ali serves as office manager and community coordinator for the United Food and Commercial Workers International Union's UFCW Local 1208, where she champions worker rights and engagement across North Carolina. She also serves as vice president of the North Carolina AFL-CIO, advancing equity and opportunity for working families statewide.
Governor Stein appointed the following to the North Carolina Credit Union Commission:

Alice D. Garland of Wake County as a public member. Garland previously served as executive director of the North Carolina Education Lottery and as vice chair of the Board of Directors for the State Employees Credit Union. She is currently a board member of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) of Wake County.
Governor Stein appointed the following to the North Carolina Geographic Information Coordinating Council:

Joey T. Ennis of Johnston County as the head of an at-large State agency not represented in subsection (d) of this section. Ennis has served as the N.C. Department of Information Technology's chief information officer for the N.C. Department of Natural and Cultural Resources since November 2025. He brings more than two decades of public service experience and a deep commitment to advancing digital capabilities across state government.
Governor Stein appointed the following to the North Carolina Holocaust Council:

Douglas J. Kahn of Wake County as an at-large member. Kahn is the managing partner of Mistdoda Capital, LLC, an investment firm. He serves on the boards of the Raleigh-Cary Jewish Federation, the Foundation for Hope in Raleigh, KIPP NC Charter School, and the Duke Health Board of Visitors. He is a former president of the Raleigh Jewish Community Center.
Governor Stein appointed the following to the North Carolina Land and Water Fund:

John W. Watson of Orange County as an at-large member. Watson retired from Latham & Watkins in 2015 after more than 30 years of legal practice. Watson previously served as a member and chair of the Board of Trustees of The Nature Conservancy of North Carolina.
Governor Stein appointed the following to the North Carolina Roanoke-Chowan Regional Housing Authority and Redevelopment Commission:

Leroy Douglas of Hertford County as an at-large member. Douglas is a self-employed business owner with more than 20 years of hands-on leadership in construction, property management, transportation services, hospitality, and automotive operations. He currently serves as a Hertford County commissioner.
Governor Stein appointed the following to the North Carolina State Health Coordinating Council:

Dr. Gregory Moon of Orange County as a representative of the health insurance industry. Dr. Moon is vice president of provider experience and strategy at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina, driving the creation of the provider reporting platform and leading its quality and risk adjustment functions. Trained in internal medicine, Dr. Moon is a graduate of Stanford University, Stanford School of Medicine, and the UC Berkeley Haas School of Business.

Chris Berg of Wake County as a structural engineer. Berg is a structural engineering leader with more than 25 years of experience, leading design and project management of practical and cost-effective building structures. He is the Building Structures Group Manager for NV5 Engineers, Inc.

Robert Ristagno Jr. of Wake County as an at-large member. Ristagno is an international business executive with more than two decades of experience leading and scaling organizations centered on education, training, and professional development. He currently serves as President of International Operations for Vistage Worldwide, the world's largest CEO peer advisory and executive development organization.
