Invasive Species Removal and Biochar Demonstration Set for October 25
The City of Green Bay and the Green Bay Conservation Corps invite residents, environmental stewards, and volunteers of all ages to participate in "Make A Difference Day" on Saturday, October 25, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at John Muir Park.
This year's event focuses on the removal of invasive buckthorn and a special live biochar demonstration, offering participants a direct role in restoring native habitats and learning sustainable land management techniques. Attendees can expect hands-on opportunities to clear invasive species and witness the transformative process of turning unwanted plants into biochar-a form of charcoal beneficial for soil health.
The Green Bay Conservation Corps, which launched in 2022 as Wisconsin's first municipal conservation corps, embodies the City's commitment to environmental restoration and community engagement. Since its inception, the Corps has improved hundreds of acres in city parks, removed thousands of gallons of invasive plants, and installed over 50,000 native plants, making substantial improvements to Green Bay's parklands and waterways.
Recent challenges with federal funding threatened conservation programming across the nation, but Green Bay responded with decisive local action, securing continued AmeriCorps and emergency support to ensure these critical environmental projects move forward.
Make A Difference Day provides an opportunity for community members to come together for a cause that strengthens the natural spaces that make Green Bay special. Whether it's a first-time volunteer event or a return visit, all are welcome to be part of this effort.
Participants are encouraged to wear weather-appropriate clothing and bring work gloves if available; tools and refreshments will be provided. No experience is necessary-all are welcome.
Space is limited. Register to volunteer at: https://www.volgistics.com/od/753931
