Guru Madhavan

Guru Madhavan, MS '02, PhD has built a career defined by leadership, innovation and philanthropy. From guiding national engineering initiatives to mentoring students and supporting programs at the State University of New York at Stony Brook, his work reflects a commitment to advancing the profession while making it more inclusive and socially responsible.

His impact was recognized globally last year when Madhavan was named the first international honorary fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering in the United Kingdom. He joins a distinguished cohort of 74 engineers and innovators elected in 2025, underscoring both his extraordinary contributions to the field and the enduring foundation he credits to Stony Brook, where he continues to deepen his relationship through volunteer service and philanthropy.

"As a valued alumnus and member of our Biomedical Engineering External Advisory Board, Guru continues to strengthen Stony Brook while earning global recognition as a Royal Academy fellow," said Andrew Singer, PhD, dean of the College of Engineering and Applied Science. "His success exemplifies the excellence of our alumni and the enduring strength of the foundation he built here. We are deeply grateful for his support, which will inspire and empower our students for years to come."
