APCIA Statement on House Energy and Commerce Committee Action on the Surface Transportation Reauthorization Safety Title and Modified REPAIR Act Text

WASHINGTON - The American Property Casualty Insurance Association (APCIA) issued the following statement in response to the House Energy and Commerce Committee's passage of the Surface Transportation Reauthorization Safety Title (the Motor Vehicle Safety Act, H.R. 7389), which contains provisions to modernize the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) programs, address motor vehicle and public safety, and includes modified REPAIR Act language (H.R. 1566) focused on competition in auto repair.

"The Committee included modified language related to the REPAIR Act in the Safety Title, however, concerns remain that this modified language does not fully address challenges in ensuring reliable access to affordable auto repair for modern vehicles. We appreciate Chairman Guthrie and Ranking Member Pallone's commitment to continue improving this language," said David Pearce, APCIA's department vice president of federal government relations and political engagement.

"Insurers are committed to ensuring that customers receive safe, cost-effective, high-quality vehicle repairs and strongly support Representative Dunn's REPAIR Act. We look forward to working with House and Senate Committee leaders to better address the need for competition and consumer choice in auto repair as Congress advances a Surface Transportation Reauthorization Bill."
