ATLANTA - Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner John F. King announced today that Aries Jordon, 25, has been arrested in connection with a church fire in Cobb County.
At approximately 9:00 PM on September 29, a fire broke out at Prayer City Eagles Chapel International Ministries located on Joe Jerkins Blvd. in Austell, Georgia. Upon arrival, firefighters observed flames coming through the roof of the building. Fire crews worked diligently to bring the fire under control and extinguish remaining hot spots.
Upon extinguishment, investigators from the State Fire Marshal's Office were requested by the Austell Fire Department to assist in the investigation of the fire. Investigators conducted an on-site examination, including witness interviews and a detailed scene assessment.
Ms. Jordan was quickly identified as a person of interest based on the evidence collected. It was reported that the suspect had prior interactions with church leadership during a brief period of attendance. Investigators worked through the night and located the suspect at an apartment complex in Mableton, Georgia.
Ms. Jordon faces multiple charges, including Arson in the First Degree, Burglary, Criminal Damage to Property, Terroristic Threats, Possession of Tools for the Commission of a Crime, and Criminal Trespass.
This investigation was conducted in partnership with the Austell Fire Department, Austell Police Department, and Cobb County Police Department. At the time of release, this investigation remains ongoing.
