BRENTWOOD, CA - The City of Brentwood has completed a citywide upgrade and modernization of its Automated External Defibrillator (AED) program, reinforcing its commitment to public safety and emergency preparedness. Supported by the Brentwood City Council, this initiative equips all City facilities and police vehicles with Avive Connect AEDs.
The City of Brentwood's deployment of Avive's AED technology advances efforts to increase survival rates for Sudden Cardiac Arrest, when every second counts. By equipping public facilities and police vehicles with real-time connected AEDs, the City is reducing the time it takes for life-saving intervention to occur.
Managing a citywide AED program has historically been resource-intensive, requiring manual checks, battery replacements, and detailed logging to ensure compliance and functionality. With the deployment of Avive's AED units, Brentwood is moving from a reactive maintenance model to a proactive, technology-driven approach.
Each AED conducts automated daily health checks and reports its status, location, and readiness in real time via Wi-Fi, cellular, and GPS connectivity. This eliminates the need for physical inspections and ensures that any issue, such as low battery is immediately flagged for attention.
"With the advancement of technology and efficiency of the Avive AED, officers have the power in their hands to increase the rate of survivability," said Lieutenant Miguel Aguiar of the Brentwood Police Department.
"In the past, managing the City's AED program meant routine manual checks and paperwork," said Human Resources Analyst Ashley Sosa. "With the new system, those tasks are now automated, giving staff a clear view of device readiness, reducing maintenance time, and ensuring every AED is ready when it matters most."
The rollout, led by Ashley Sosa, Sergeant Joshua Flynn, and Lieutenant Miguel Aguiar, represents greater accountability, improved compliance with medical standards, and heightened public safety. The program also provides the City with a centralized view of AED fleet health, ensuring no device is overlooked and every unit is always ready for use.
As part of the launch, City employees received hands-on training from members of Avive's team to ensure staff are prepared and confident to use the new devices during emergencies.
The AED modernization project marks another major milestone in the City of Brentwood's ongoing efforts to advance safety, streamline operations, and strengthen community resilience.
