October flute concert to feature Grammy Award-winning artist

Nestor Torres.

Oct. 15, 2026 - DENTON - Grammy Award-winning jazz flutist Nestor Torres will perform alongside Texas Woman's University music students at the annual Monster Flute Concert at the end of the month.

Torres won the 2001 Latin Grammy Award for his album This Side of Paradise in the Pop Instrumental category and has worked with artists like Dave Matthews and Gloria Estefan. Now, he'll be working with the TWU and Brookhaven Flute Choir in Denton.

"I really enjoy performing with the ensembles, for it gives me an opportunity to share knowledge with the students while we rehearse," Torres said. "That said, Texas Woman's University Flute Choir is very unique in that it includes not only students, but flute professionals and amateurs as well."

For the performance Tuesday, Oct. 27, attendees can expect to hear the flute choir and Torres cover a range of musical styles and genres, and be unlike a typical concert experience, he said.

Prior to the concert, Torres will also spend three days on campus working with students in master classes as well as with the jazz combo.

Bringing in professional artists with international experience will help students learn to master their instruments, help them gain insight into working with large orchestras as well as in professional studio spaces and give them a new hands-on learning opportunity.

"I want them to enjoy their training and learning process as an adventure filled with infinite mysteries and possibilities," Torres said. "The joy of learning and discovery we share together is both inspiring and exhilarating to me."
