Angela Ruiz summed it up this way: "This concert is expanding music literature further than it has ever been expanded before."
Ruiz, conductor of the Cameron Community Orchestra is referring to the ensemble's upcoming spring concert, set for Thursday, March 12. The orchestra performs at 7:30 p.m. in the McCutcheon Recital Hall, located in CU's McMahon Fine Arts Complex.
It is a bold claim … but it's one that she can substantiate.
"We will play selections as early as J.S. Bach's 'Brandenburg Concerto No. 5' arranged by Merle J. Isaac, all the way to 'Golden' from the hit Netflix film, 'K-Pop Demon Hunters,' arranged by Paul Murtha," Ruiz said.
Also to be performed are "Adagio" from Serenade No. 1, Opus 8 by Beethoven, "Amadeus!" - Jamin Hoffman's arrangement of Mozart's Symphony No. 25 as presented in the opening of the film - along with "A Flat," originated by the duo Black Violin and arranged by Larry Moore, along with "Espresso," a Sabrina Carpenter song arranged for string orchestra by Chris M. Bernotas.
The Cameron Community Orchestra is an ensemble comprised of Cameron students Kaitlan Kaulaity, Kim Lamkin and Seth McCoy; along with Lawton community members Xavier McClure and Gracie Wilcox.
The concert is presented by the CU Department of Art, Music and Theatre Arts. For ticket information, call 580-581-2346 weekdays between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.
