3 Fort Hood Dental Educators Earn Army, MHS, and USU Honors
Three Uniformed Services University dental faculty, all program alumni, earned top 2026 Army, MHS, and USU honors in military medicine.

Three faculty members at the Fort Hood 2-Year Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD-2) / Comprehensive Dentistry Residency Program have earned Army, Military Health System (MHS), and Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USU) honors in 2026 for their contributions to military medicine and graduate dental education. All three serve as appointed faculty of the USU Postgraduate Dental College (PDC), and each is also a graduate of a USU postgraduate dental residency.
Army Lt. Col. (Dr.) Stephanie Helmus, a pediatric dentistry mentor and comprehensive dentist, received the 2026 Army Dental Corps Chief's Award of Excellence in Dental Education in the Junior Educator category.
Army Lt. Col. (Dr.) Anna Yoo, the program's assistant program director and a comprehensive dentist, was named the 2026 Fort Hood AEGD-2 Mentor of the Year.
Army Maj. (Dr.) Eric Hu, a prosthodontic mentor, earned two honors: the 2026 USU-PDC Junior Educator of the Year Award and the 2025 MHS Award for the Advancement of Dentistry in Military Medicine in the Junior Army category. Hu accepted the MHS award at the 2026 MHS Conference in Dallas, Texas.
As appointed USU-PDC faculty, the three officers were selected for their leadership, mentorship, classroom and clinical teaching, specialty expertise, professional and community service, and commitment to faculty development. Their recognitions span the Army Dental Corps, the MHS, and USU, and each came in a junior-educator category that marks a rising clinician-educator.
"These exceptional military clinician-educators demonstrate the very best of Army Dentistry and exemplify the knowledge, skills, and leadership qualities that are synonymous with PDC alumni and faculty," said Dr. Drew Fallis, executive dean of the USU PDC.
Established in 1961, the Fort Hood AEGD-2 Program is one of Army Medicine's force multipliers. Each year it educates and trains 16 residents to become comprehensive dentists (the Army's 63B specialty), helping keep the force medically ready, sharpening clinical readiness, and preparing future leaders across the MHS.
