Washington State University continues to reign as the most popular choice for special design license plates in the state of Washington.
Earlier this week, The Seattle Times reported that upwards of 24,000 Washington drivers last year purchased or renewed specialty license plates awash in crimson and gray. The university generated approximately $734,000 for student scholarships from these plates, as WSU receives $28 of the $30 cost for renewing a specialty plate.
"Cougs are known for their pride in and support of Washington State University, and the continued success of the WSU plate reflects that commitment," said Kelly Brantner, director of membership and marketing with the WSU Alumni Association. "The WSU Alumni Association is honored to steward the WSU license plate program, which gives Cougs a visible way to show their connection to WSU while knowing their support helps fund scholarships for students across the entire WSU system. And it certainly doesn't hurt that it also makes any car look a little better."
Rounding out the top five most popular specialty plates were the Washington National Park Fund, the Seattle Seahawks, the Law Enforcement Memorial, and the University of Washington.
More information about purchasing special plates is available on the Washington State Department of Licensing website.
