Sudan: Italy’s commitment to “Italy for Sudan” is strengthened with additional aid

A delegation from the Italian Foreign Ministry and the Embassy of Italy in Khartoum has arrived in Port Sudan - as part of the "Italy for Sudan" project - to distribute additional essential food items (including pasta, flour, broad beans, rice, oil, and drinking water) today, April 4 and tomorrow, April 5. This follows the first airlift of humanitarian aid on December 25 destined for 2,500 students attending schools for children of displaced families and run by the Parish of Port Sudan.

The operation is expected to be completed by the end of April, with further supplies of essential goods (including family tents, tarpaulins, mosquito nets, mattresses, jerry cans and water tanks, kitchen sets, and hygiene kits) for a total of approximately 107 tons of aid, destined for 4,245 displaced families in 31 camps in the Red Sea State.

Launched by Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani in response to the recent escalation of the Sudanese civil war, "Italy for Sudan" is a further leap in Italy's humanitarian commitment to supporting the Sudanese population, thanks to an integrated approach involving the country's economic system, major humanitarian organizations, and civil society.

The mission has also provided an opportunity to inaugurate the laboratory of the Port Sudan Association for the Blind and visit several projects implemented with the support of our Development Cooperation.
