New online program focus prepares graduates to bridge the intersection of business strategy, technology, and cybersecurity
Cybersecurity has evolved from a technology concern into a business imperative.
From hospitals and financial institutions to manufacturers, government agencies, and small businesses, organizations today face increasing pressure to protect sensitive data, secure digital infrastructure, manage technology risk, and maintain operational resilience in an environment of growing cyber threats.
At the same time, employers continue to struggle to find professionals who possess both the technical expertise to secure information systems and the business acumen to align security decisions with organizational goals.
To help address this workforce need, Franklin University has launched a Business Information Systems Focus within its Bachelor of Science in Information Systems degree program.
The B.S. Information Systems with a Business Information Systems Focus is designed for students seeking to build expertise at the intersection of information systems, cybersecurity, risk management, and business operations. The program prepares graduates to help organizations identify vulnerabilities, secure networks, assess risk, support compliance efforts, and protect critical digital assets.
The launch reflects a broader shift occurring across industries. As organizations increasingly rely on cloud technologies, digital communications, data analytics, artificial intelligence, and interconnected systems, cybersecurity responsibilities have expanded beyond traditional IT functions and become integral to business strategy, governance, and operational continuity.
Franklin's program recognizes that reality by combining a strong foundation in information systems with specialized coursework in information security, network security, cybersecurity risk management, governance, compliance, and secure systems design.
Students develop practical, workforce-relevant skills in:
• Information assurance and cybersecurity
• Threat and vulnerability assessment
• Security policy development and implementation
• Network and infrastructure security
• Risk analysis and mitigation
• Incident response and recovery planning
• Information systems governance
• Secure systems architecture
The Business Information Systems Focus builds upon Franklin's Information Systems curriculum, which develops expertise in systems analysis and design, business intelligence, project management, enterprise technologies, analytics, and technology-enabled business strategy.
This combination of business, technology, and cybersecurity knowledge prepares graduates to contribute across industries where protecting digital assets is increasingly essential to organizational success.
Career opportunities include:
• Information Security Analyst
• Cybersecurity Analyst
• Information Systems Security Specialist
• IT Security Manager
• Security Compliance Analyst
• Network Security Administrator
• Risk Management Specialist
Delivered 100% online through instructor-led coursework, the program provides working adults with the flexibility to gain in-demand cybersecurity and information systems skills while balancing career and personal commitments.
As organizations continue to invest in cybersecurity, resilience, digital transformation, and responsible AI adoption, demand for professionals who can secure information systems and manage technology risk is expected to remain strong for the foreseeable future.
