Statement of the 9th Congress Provincial Executive Committee of the SACP Limpopo Province following a hybrid meeting held on Sunday 28 June 2026

Tuesday, 30 June | Polokwane:- The South African Communist Party (SACP) in Limpopo convened its first meeting of the 9th Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) on Sunday, 28 June 2026, to assess the prevailing political situation, strengthen organisational work and advance preparations for the 2026 local government elections.

Political address, 5th Special National Congress and November elections

The PEC received and deliberated on a political address from the Central Committee, which calls for various forms of support and solidarity struggles with the oppressed people of Swaziland, Palestine, and Cuba, where the imperialist US has maintained economic sanctions for 66 years now, lately resulting in the near-total destruction of its energy infrastructure, severe shortages of fuel, and a continuous investment blockade. The meeting paid tribute to the people of Venezuela who are facing severe plundering of the country's oil resources following the abduction of President Nicolas Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, and the latest devastating earthquake.

The Central Committee report reaffirmed the resolutions of the SACP 15th National Congress and the 10 key pillars central to the SACP Programme "The South African Struggle for Socialism", amongst which is the historic decision that the SACP should independently contest the 2026 local government elections.

The PEC deliberated extensively on the issue of elections, emphasising that the Party is entering the elections space to advance a socialist alternative to the prevailing neoliberal economic trajectory, which is dismally failing to address the crisis of poverty, unemployment, inequality and the exploitation of the poor and working class in our country and Africa as a whole. The PEC appreciates the work being done on the ground by Party members, Red Brigades and volunteers in reconnecting with workers at the factory floor, traditional authorities, religious institutions and communities generally.

The PEC further reaffirmed that the Party's electoral intervention is rooted in the struggles of working-class and poor communities and seeks to build democratic, developmental and accountable local government that places people before profit.

The SACP and the Alliance: 'Rooigevaar' and the neo-liberal offensive in Limpopo

The PEC meeting took place amidst a difficult political environment characterised by sustained and unprecedented attacks on the SACP in Limpopo. These attacks are not isolated incidents but form part of a broader and co-ordinated national agenda aimed at weakening the Party and using Limpopo as a launching pad for attacks on other provinces.

The PEC continues to condemn in the strongest terms the recent decision by the ANC PEC to remove the SACP Provincial Secretary, Comrade Dr Chuene Malebana, from the legislature after he refused to 'collapse the Party' in Limpopo, as well as other comrades in Vhembe, Blouberg and other municipalities which got targeted after strongly raising issues of corruption and poor service delivery - a clear programme of victimisation that many Party cadres in councils and government departments will be subjected to. The PEC demands the immediate reversal of these strange anti-Alliance decisions.

Unlike the upcoming local government elections and the 2029 national elections, the 2021 and 2024 elections were fought and won on agreed traditional Alliance principles, at the centre of which was an imperative for Alliance partners to contribute time and resources towards an ANC-led Alliance campaign. Even the development of the elections manifesto was a joint Alliance exercise.

The PEC calls upon the Central Committee to urgently take the matter up with the NEC of the ANC in the context of previous agreements and the need for national clarity, as well as in the spirit of the Alliance and in defence of the National Democratic Revolution.

The PEC expresses its sincere appreciation for the overwhelming messages of solidarity received from the general public, progressive formations and thousands of ANC members who have openly distanced themselves from the unprecedented attacks directed at the SACP by an Alliance partner.
