Timber bridge replacements on the home stretch

Timber bridge replacements on the home stretch

Published on 03 July 2025

If you've been following Council's efforts to replace the old timber bridges across the area, this update is for you!

This week, we're putting the finishing touches on the Tooranie Road / Yarrein Creek Bridge, marking the final timber bridge on our replacement list.

Once the new approach barriers are installed over the coming days, the bridge will open to traffic, with demolition of the old bridge to follow soon after.

Mayor Cr John Harvie said the milestone was an exciting moment for the community after years of steady progress, careful planning, and grant applications by Council's Major Projects Team.

"This will be welcome news for locals who have patiently waited for these timber structures to be replaced," he said.

"Bridge replacements have been a priority for us for many years as we work to improve safety across our network and support freight movements in the region."

"A big thank you to the community, particularly those in the west, for your patience during these works as we've completed these important upgrades."

The bridge replacements, including Tooranie Road, have been funded under the NSW Government's Fixing Country Bridges Program . Each new bridge is designed for higher mass limit capacity, with a design life of 100 years.

The completion of these projects has not only improved heavy vehicle access but has strengthened vital connections to our arterial and regional road networks, supporting the movement of farm produce, grain, and livestock across the region.
