Apindo West Java: Bottled Drinking Water Is a Public Necessity

JAKARTA - The Chairwoman of the West Java chapter of the Indonesian Employers Association (Apindo), Ning Wahyu Astutik, said that the policy banning three-axle trucks could have far-reaching consequences if implemented without adequate preparedness.

She made the remarks during a discussion titled "Finding Common Ground in Over Dimension Over Loading Policy: Between Law Enforcement and Logistics Flow", recently held in Jakarta.

"Bottled drinking water is not merely a business commodity, but a basic public necessity, especially in areas with limited access to clean water," she said.

Ning questioned the readiness of replacement fleets as well as the public's ability to absorb potential price increases.

"If alternative fleets are not available, distribution will be disrupted. This could lead to shortages. Such impacts must be carefully considered," she stressed.

Kadin West Java Ready to Facilitate Dialogue with Governor

Meanwhile, Vice Chairman of the West Java Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin Jabar), Akhmad Hidayatullah, said the organization is ready to facilitate dialogue between the bottled water industry and the Governor of West Java regarding the circular letter banning three-axle trucks.

"We will formulate joint policy inputs together with Amdatara and Apindo Jabar to be conveyed directly to KDM, both through formal and informal channels," Akhmad said.

He emphasized that Kadin Jabar remains critical despite its role as a strategic partner of the government.

"If a policy comprehensively harms business actors, it must be conveyed openly and constructively," he asserted.

According to Akhmad, equal communication between the regional government and the business community is essential to maintaining a conducive investment climate in West Java.

"We believe KDM is not anti-criticism. Kadin Jabar stands ready to act as a facilitator and catalyst for dialogue in pursuit of balanced policies," he concluded.
