RTA launching ‘Thankful for Safety’ campaign

(DAYTON, OHIO)… With the end of daylight saving time bringing earlier sunsets and darker commutes, the Greater Dayton Regional Transit Authority (RTA) is launching a new month-long safety campaign, "Thankful for Safety." Throughout November the campaign will aim to remind riders and employees of the importance of vigilance and positive actions that contribute to a safe and secure daily commute.

"Safety is our main priority behind the wheel," said Jessica Olson, RTA's director of safety and communications. "We are proud that so many of our drivers take the tools we teach them in training and put them into practice on the road. Our drivers are some of the best in the industry and our safety record reflects that."

Beginning Nov. 1, the RTA will highlight on social media daily safety tips encouraging the community to slow down near bus stops and crosswalks, watch for pedestrians, and give transit vehicles extra space on the road. Other safety tips will remind riders to stay visible, avoid distractions, and plan their trip.

To help riders stay visible, RTA and the Miami Valley Regional Planning Commission (MVRPC) have partnered to hand out clip-on safety lights. These are part of MVRPC's "Be Seen" campaign, promoting safe commuting. People can wear the clip-on reflective lights to be visible to RTA drivers and other motorists. The lights are available while supplies last and can be obtained by asking for one from a transit ambassador. You can learn more about MVRPC and their programs at www.mvrpc.org .

The RTA thanks the community for their continued commitment to a safe and positive transportation experience and invites everyone to take part in the campaign. The public is encouraged to follow RTA social media platforms @iriderta and participate in the conversation using #ThankfulforSafety and continue to practice good safety ha bits while riding .
