Iowa City Fire Department responds to car fire
The Iowa City Fire Department responded to a car fire near a structure at 11:33 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 15, 2026, at 1618 Aber Ave.
Responding units arrived at 11:38 p.m. and encountered the engine compartment of a vehicle on fire in the driveway, along with the extension to the exterior of the garage. The five occupants of the structure were out of the building upon arrival.
The fire was brought under control by 11:47 p.m. and caused about $10,000 in damage.
There were no reported injuries to civilians or firefighters; however, five occupants of the home were displaced.
The Iowa City Fire Department was assisted by the Iowa City Police Department, Johnson County Ambulance Services, and the Red Cross.
