As part of ongoing efforts to improve parking efficiency and increase turnover in areas with high demand, the City of Greensboro will implement paid parking in several downtown surface lots beginning in 2026. The change follows recommendations from the 2024 Downtown Parking Plan and will apply to the Elm/Greene, Elm/McGee, and Elm/MLK paved lots, and the South Elm gravel lot. The parking rate in the South Elm gravel lot will be $3 per day. The parking rate in all paved City surface lots will be $2 per hour. In some cases, that's an increase of just $0.50.
Payment in all surface lots will be required Monday through Friday, 8 am to 6 pm, and must be made through the ParkMobile app or by phone as the City begins to transition away from coin-operated meters. Parking in these lots will continue to be free after 6 pm and on weekends. Parking Enforcement will begin patrolling the new paid lots beginning January 2, educating first as these new regulations are enforced.
Please contact the Parking Operations office at 336-373-4786 with questions or to request monthly parking in any of these facilities.
