6/11/26 AILA Doc. No. 26061101.
WASHINGTON, DC - The American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) recognizes James Chesser with the 2026 Technology & Innovation Award, in acknowledgment of his pioneering work leveraging technology to streamline processes, increase efficiency, and improve client service.
His nomination focused on his many years of contributions to AILA, including chairing the Online Course Content Review Committee, AILA's AI in Immigration Law Online Course Committee, and other task forces and committees. His nomination was based on two key areas: "One is James's advocacy for upskilling in the AI and technology space amongst lawyers, and the other is the technology he has created for general use." He often speaks and writes for AILA and other legal audiences "to explain burgeoning technologies, including how the US government is using artificial intelligence to track and screen foreign nationals. He takes the position that all of us are capable of understanding these technologies at this nascent stage in their development, and that we need to develop a sufficient understanding to protect and effectively represent our clients."
He has also "been at the forefront of developing new immigration technologies" including a system to track changes made to the Department of State (DOS) Foreign Affairs Manual. He was lauded for "his selfless and tireless work to ensure we rise to meet this new era."
