Press Release- Hon. Mr Shisir Khanal and H.E. Mr Paulo Rangel Hold Telephone Conversation

Hon'ble Minister for Foreign Affairs Mr Shisir Khanal had a telephone conversation with Minister of State and Foreign Affairs of the Portuguese Republic H.E. Mr Paulo Rangel today.

On the occasion, Hon. Minister Khanal requested his Portuguese counterpart to reconsider the status of over 2,000 Nepali nationals who are facing procedural and legal difficulties in Portugal due to fake stamps affixed to their genuine documents, especially Police Clearance Certificates, purportedly attested by the Embassies of Portugal and Nepal in New Delhi. H.E. Mr Rangel appreciated the Nepali community for their contribution to the Portuguese economy. He assured Minister Khanal that he would positively raise this issue with the agencies concerned to review the cases of the affected Nepali nationals applying humane approach.

During the call, H.E. Mr Rangel extended his warm congratulations to Hon. Minister Khanal on assumption of his office as the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Nepal and expressed his best wishes for a successful tenure.

Similarly, the two sides expressed their satisfaction over the excellent state of bilateral relations and expressed their commitment to further enhancing bilateral cooperation between the two countries in areas such as hydropower, agriculture, tourism, infrastructure development, and IT areas.
