Traffic switch on U.S. Route 50 over Vetter Lane set for next week

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - Rehabilitation work on U.S. Route 50 over Vetter Lane is nearing the halfway mark, and the next phase is set to begin next week. This will bring changes to the work zone, but no additional traffic impacts.

The evening of Sept. 29, construction crews working with the Missouri Department of Transportation plan to begin rehabilitation work on the eastbound bridge. U.S. Route 50 over Vetter Lane will remain narrowed to one lane in each direction in a head-to-head configuration, but this will shift east and westbound traffic onto the newly rehabilitated westbound bridge. This new traffic pattern will take place over multiple days and is expected to be in place through November 2025.

A 12-foot width restriction and reduced speeds will remain in place. Vetter Lane and the Clark Avenue ramp onto eastbound U.S. Route 50 will be closed for the duration of the work.

As with the first phase of work, significant delays are anticipated, particularly during peak travel hours, and motorists are encouraged to plan ahead.

All work is weather permitting and schedules are subject to change.

The Missouri Department of Transportation has contracted with E & C Bridge, LLC to perform deck repairs and overlays on 11 bridges and to remove one no-longer-used bridge. Traffic control plans include single-lane closures, narrowing traffic in both directions to one lane, ramp closures, and full road closures, dependent on location. All work in this multi-bridge project is expected to be completed by Dec. 1, 2026.
