The City of Boulder invites the community to celebrate the Grand Re-Opening of Sawhill Ponds on Sunday, Oct. 19, from 9:30 a.m. to noon at 3400 75th St.
This free, family-friendly event will showcase recent improvements to Sawhill Ponds, including a new fishing pier, nature discovery area and accessible trails designed to provide safe, engaging opportunities for the community to connect with nature.
The morning will begin with Family Fishing from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. where staff will show community members of all ages how to use the fishing gear, set up a line and follow local fishing rules. Please bring your own fishing gear and bait if you have them. The city will have a limited supply available for beginners to use. Adults fishing without children will need a valid Colorado fishing license.
At 10:30 a.m., city staff and partners will host a ribbon cutting ceremony to mark the official re-opening. Following the ceremony, families are invited to stay for a Nature Play Date with children's musicians, Jeff and Paige from 10:45 a.m. to noon, featuring outdoor exploration in the new Nature Discovery Zone and guided activities led by open space educators.
"These enhancements reflect Boulder's commitment to making our open space accessible, safe and welcoming for all," said Dan Burke, Open Space and Mountain Parks Department Director. "We're excited to celebrate with the community and provide new opportunities for kids and families to experience the joy of nature together."
Spanish interpretation will be provided at the event. Attendees are encouraged to dress for outdoor fun and exploration.
