DALLAS - Leila P. Cowart Elementary School teacher assistant, Denise De La Cruz, spends her school days supporting students and her evenings carrying on a 43-year family tradition at the State Fair of Texas. Her family's award-winning concession stands earned multiple Big Tex Choice Awards, with this year's "Holy Flan! Buñueloco" named a finalist. With deep Dallas ISD roots - including her father, the namesake of Trinidad "Trini" Garza Early College High School - De La Cruz's story brings together education, family legacy, and plenty of fair flavor.
