Philadelphia Man Pleads Guilty to Illegally Voting as an Alien in 2024 Election

PHILADELPHIA - United States Attorney David Metcalf announced that Jamil Ahmad, 50, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, entered a plea of guilty today before U.S. Magistrate Judge Craig M. Straw to one count of voting by an alien.

The defendant was charged by information last month, arising from his illegally casting a vote in the 2024 general election. At the time of that election, Ahmad was a citizen of Pakistan and a lawful permanent resident of the United States. Under both federal and state law, only U.S. citizens may vote in Pennsylvania.

"We intend to prosecute anyone who corrupts our democracy by illegally voting in its elections," U.S. Attorney Metcalf said.

The defendant is scheduled to be sentenced on January 26 and faces a maximum possible sentence of a fine, one year in prison, or both.

This case was investigated by Homeland Security Investigations and the FBI.
