This lecture examines the pivotal role of competition policy in promoting economic integration within the European Union, referencing key insights from recent research and reports. It will emphasize the vital role of competition policy in promoting economic growth and development within the European Union. It underscores how competition policy enhances market efficiency, fosters innovation, and ensures fair business practices.

The session will delve into how competition policy catalyses economic growth by boosting productivity and driving innovation, ensuring businesses have equitable access to markets. It will address how effective competition policy aids in reducing market power disparities, which have increased markups in EU economies, thereby supporting GDP growth and productivity.

It will highlight how competition instruments and their enforcement contribute to a more competitive market environment, enhancing allocative efficiency and fostering innovation. The session will demonstrate how a robust competition framework not only strengthens the internal market but also prepares the EU economy to meet global challenges by improving investment, labour productivity, and international trade.
