MaineHealth Surgical Care Rockport Earns Dual Reaccreditation from Intersocietal Accreditation Commission

ROCKPORT, Maine - MaineHealth Surgical Care Rockport has earned dual reaccreditation from the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC) in both vascular testing and vascular interventional services, reflecting their continued commitment to providing high-quality vascular care to patients throughout the midcoast region.

Cardiovascular disease remains the leading cause of death in the United States, while stroke is the nation's fifth-leading cause of death and the leading cause of disability, with nearly 800,000 new strokes occurring annually, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Early evaluation, detection and treatment of vascular disease play a critical role in improving patient outcomes.

MaineHealth Surgical Care Rockport received a renewed three-year accreditation in vascular testing in the following areas:

• Extracranial cerebrovascular testing, which evaluates the arteries in the neck that supply blood to the brain.
• Peripheral venous testing, which assesses blood flow in the arms and legs.
• Peripheral arterial testing, which measures blood flow through the arteries of the limbs.
• Visceral vascular testing, which evaluates major blood vessels supplying abdominal organs, including the aorta and arteries that supply the kidneys, liver and intestines.

The care team also earned reaccreditation in superficial venous evaluation and management, a service that uses ultrasound technology and clinical assessment to evaluate vein health and guide treatment.

Vascular testing and interventional procedures are specialized services used to diagnose and treat conditions affecting the body's arteries and veins. These services can help care teams evaluate and manage a wide range of vascular conditions, supporting timely diagnosis and treatment.

To earn accreditation, hospitals must undergo a rigorous application and review process and demonstrate compliance with published standards. The process includes a comprehensive self-assessment and review by a panel of medical experts. The IAC accreditation process also evaluates both the operational and clinical components of the facility, including representative case studies and corresponding final reports. Reaccreditation signifies compliance with nationally recognized standards for quality, safety and patient care.
