WASHINGTON, D.C.-Today, Congressman Pat Harrigan (NC-10) introduced a resolution recognizing the 100th anniversary of the Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufacturers' Institute, Inc. (SAAMI) and commending its century of work establishing industry standards that ensure the safe interoperability of firearms and ammunition.
"For 100 years, SAAMI has been the gold standard for firearm and ammunition safety in this country, and frankly, around the world," said Congressman Harrigan. "They were founded at the request of the federal government, and they have delivered ever since, working alongside the military, conservation leaders, and international partners to make sure that firearms are safe, reliable, and built to a standard Americans can trust. It is an honor to recognize their 100th anniversary and the countless people who have contributed to that mission over the past century."
"The Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufacturers' Institute (SAAMI) was founded a century ago at the request of the federal government. SAAMI is the world's leading authority on creating and publishing industry-voluntary standards for safety, reliability, and interchangeability of firearms, ammunition, and suppressors. SAAMI is also the leading voice in promoting the safe and responsible use, handling and storage of firearms, and ammunition. The Institute set the foundation for America's firearm and ammunition industry to become known as the 'Arsenal of Democracy.' Just as a century ago, today's firearms and ammunition are produced to exacting standards and the highest expectations for not just the military and law enforcement but also law-abiding gun owners. SAAMI is deeply appreciative of Congressman Harrigan for recognizing the crucial role SAAMI plays to deliver firearms, ammunition, suppressors, and components that deliver for today's law-abiding gun owner," said Joe Bartozzi, President and CEO of the Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufacturers' Institute (SAAMI).
Founded in 1926 at the request of the Federal Government, SAAMI has spent a century creating and publishing technical, performance, interchangeability, and safety standards for firearms, ammunition, suppressors, and components. SAAMI has collaborated with domestic and international standards bodies including the American National Standards Institute and the Commission Internationale Permanente, coordinated with the U.S. military, and even contributed to conservation efforts by funding wildlife research conducted by Aldo Leopold, widely regarded as the father of modern wildlife management.
Congressman Harrigan will continue to champion the work of organizations like SAAMI that promote public safety, responsible industry practices, and American leadership in firearms and ammunition standards.
