[WASHINGTON, D.C.] - U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) tonight hosted a telephone town hall for more than 10,000 Illinoisans to answer constituents' questions and discuss the Trump Administration's plans for immigration enforcement and military deployments in Chicago. In tonight's town hall, Duckworth also highlighted how Republicans' "Big Beautiful Bill" will profoundly harm Illinoisans as a result of giving Trump and his billionaire buddies a massive tax cut paid for by increasing taxes on and cutting basic needs services for the most vulnerable Americans and the middle class. Audio of the Senator's telephone town hall is available on the Senator's YouTube page.
"As all of our local officials continue to reiterate to Donald Trump, there is no need to deploy troops to Chicago," Duckworth said. "This is another unwarranted, unwanted and unjust move straight out of the authoritarian's playbook that will only undermine our military's readiness and distract our servicemembers from executing their core mission of keeping Americans safe from the real adversaries who wish us harm. Further, it's a distraction from Trump and Republicans' efforts this summer to make the largest cuts to Medicaid in history and give tax breaks to the ultra-wealthy at the expense of middle-class Americans."
Duckworth hosted her last telephone town hall in June, highlighting how if Republicans' "Big Beautiful Bill" was passed, hundreds of thousands of Illinoisans would be at risk of losing health coverage through Medicaid and food assistance through SNAP, and dozens of rural hospitals and nursing homes in our state would likely close-ultimately cutting off or restricting access to critical services for entire communities, including Illinoisans with private insurance. Duckworth also hosted a Veterans town hall in McHenry County in May.
