Washington, D.C. - U.S. Senator Lisa Blunt Rochester (D-Del.) yesterday joined MSNBC's The Weekend with Jonathan Capehart, Eugene Daniels, and Jacqueline Alemany to highlight the stakes of the Republican shutdown and the imminent health care crisis they are creating.
Below are excerpts of the interview.
"…Energy costs have gone up, food prices have gone up, rent has gone up, and we're on the brink of health care costs going up. People are going to have to make very difficult decisions. Democrats, we're saying, number one, the government should be open, and we should be doing our job, and number two, we need to make sure that people don't have to face this kind of crisis."
"I think about my constituents. I think about this woman, Jan…When I ran [for Congress], one of the reasons was because of the Affordable Care Act. Jan is a small business owner. She had suffered through cancer. She said the Affordable Care Act saved her life…When I met with her about a week or so ago, she was concerned about her premiums doubling…This is this is about life saving [care], this is about our economy, like all of us, are going to be impacted. and I think that's the message that I hope people understand that yes, there are millions of people on Medicaid that are impacted by that big, beautiful bill. Yes, there are families across the country, but even businesses - this is going to affect all of us."
