Stewart's Shops and 46 police departments across New York and Vermont will team up to celebrate National Coffee with a Cop Day on Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2026.
Police officers and sheriff's deputies will visit with community members at 59 Stewart's Shops in 25 counties across upstate New York and Vermont. Stewart's provided free coffee certificates to participating law enforcement organizations to share with customers in the hopes of striking up a conversation about their community.
"This is a great opportunity to meet individuals we might not have contact with otherwise," said Derek Ellis, public information officer for the Albany Police Department. "It is important to go where people are and we can't think of a better place to do it than Stewart's."
National Coffee with a Cop Day has grown into an international program since its inception a decade ago. All 50 U.S. states and 40 countries participate in the program.
"It is humbling that so many of our customers think of Stewart's as a community gathering place," said Stewart's president Chad Kiesow. "This program is the perfect opportunity for our customers and police officers to get to know each other and talk about their neighborhood over a cup of coffee."
