UMHB Offers Many Opportunities for the Community to Enjoy Visual and Performing Arts this Fall

BELTON, Texas- The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor (UMHB) has several visual and performing arts events on campus this fall, including art exhibits, a production of Hansel & Gretel, and a holiday ensemble showcase.

The College of Visual and Performing Arts is excited to welcome guest artist Minji Kang-Watrous, whose art is currently on display in the gallery, to campus for an artist talk on Thursday, Oct. 9, at 11:00 a.m. in the Baugh Center for the Visual Arts. She is a self-taught hanji artist who has developed her own unique style, and her art is a modern interpretation of traditional Korean art passed down from her mother. The simplicity of her compositions and the integration of textures create exclusive and compelling art. The artist talk is free, but seating is limited and tickets are required. Call 254-295-4294 to reserve your spot.

Later this month, a showcase of recent works by the faculty artists and designers who comprise UMHB's Art Department will be on display at the Baugh Center for the Visual Arts gallery. This faculty exhibition will offer a vibrant cross-section of contemporary art practices, highlighting the diverse conceptual and material explorations currently underway within our faculty studios. A reception is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 14, at 5:00 p.m., and artist talks are on Tuesday, Oct. 21, and Wednesday, Oct. 29, at 2:00 p.m. Everything is free, but seating is limited and tickets are required for the artist talks. Call 254-295-4294 to reserve your spot.

Capstone exhibitions for graduating UMHB art and graphic design majors will take place Nov. 6 through Dec. 5 in the gallery at the Baugh Center for the Visual Arts. Guests are invited to stop in and experience the work our students have created as a culmination of their degrees.

UMHB's production of Hansel & Gretel is coming to the Baugh Performance Hall located in the Sue & Frank Mayborn Performing Arts Center on Friday, Oct. 31, at 7:00 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 1, at 2:30 p.m. This beloved Grimm fairytale comes to life in a rich operatic setting filled with memorable melodies and vivid storytelling. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for children (ages 6-18) and senior adults. Children five and under are free.
