Groundbreaking on Hall County Pond Fork Sewer Extension set for Sept. 23

A groundbreaking ceremony will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 23, at 2:30 p.m. to officially begin construction on the new Pond Fork Sewer Extension Project.

"This is an exciting project for Hall County, as it serves as an integral piece of Hall County's Strategic Plan, Comprehensive Plan and Sewer Master Plan," District 3 Commissioner Gregg Poole, whose district the project sits in, said. "This extension will serve the residents and businesses along U.S. 129 (Athens Highway), which is extremely important with all of the industry and development coming to that area of the County."

Once completed, this project will add approximately three miles of sewer line along the Athens Highway corridor, with approximately 0.8 miles of gravity lines and 2.5 miles of force main lines. A lift station will also be added off Dorsey Peek Road.

"Hall County has been working toward enhancing its sewer services for quite some time now, as these projects take a significant amount of planning and preparation before they can begin," Assistant Director of Hall County Public Works and Utilities Bill King said. "So, we are excited to get started and to serve our citizens and businesses with continued and enhanced excellent local government services."

The ceremony is open to the public and will be held at the Eskimo Cold Storage facility property, located at 3001 Athens Highway in Gainesville. Please proceed to "Building #2" upon arrival. The event will be held at the upper end of the property, closest to U.S. 129.

Construction of the Pond Fork Sewer Extension is funded using the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) and Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) VIII funds. It is expected to be completed in fall 2026.
