September 2 Yuma City Council Agenda Highlights

The next regular Yuma City Council meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, September 2, in the Council Chambers at City Hall.

Here are some of the items scheduled to be presented to City Council for consideration:

Intergovernmental Agreement with Yuma Elementary School District No. 1
A three-year intergovernmental agreement (IGA) with Yuma Elementary School District No. 1 will be presented to Council for authorization. The agreement would provide School Resource Officer services on District campuses and at District events, supporting campus safety, classroom instruction, student mentoring, and coordination between the district and the Yuma Police Department.

Parks and Recreation Improvements and Equipment

Several Parks and Recreation items are scheduled for Council consideration, including improvements at Shaw Field, Smucker Park, and East Mesa Community Park, along with golf cart and maintenance equipment purchases. The items would support irrigation improvements, park amenities, and equipment used to maintain City parks, golf courses, athletic fields, and green spaces.

Biosolids Removal and Disposal Services

Council will consider awarding a one-year contract for biosolids removal and disposal services, with options for annual renewal. The service provides routine removal, transportation, and proper management of biosolids generated through the wastewater treatment process, helping the City maintain treatment plant operations and comply with environmental requirements.

Intergovernmental Agreements for Residential Standard Plans

Council will consider authorizing IGAs with the City of San Luis, City of Somerton, and Town of Wellton for the use of the City of Yuma's pre-approved residential standard plans. The plans include accessory dwelling units, single-family, two-family, and three-family residential units, and are intended to provide an efficient option for residential development and permitting.

Public Hearing: Rezoning at Araby Road and 26th Street
A public hearing is scheduled as Council considers a request to rezone the southeast corner of Araby Road and the 26th Street alignment from Agriculture to General Commercial/Aesthetic Overlay. The request is associated with proposed commercial development on a portion of the property, and the Planning and Zoning Commission recommended approval with conditions, including the exclusion of truck stop diesel dispensers and commercial truck parking.
