Sharon Horgan on Her Daughter Wanting to Move Back In But She'd Already Given Her Room Away

Drew: And yet are we living in a society where kids are as much as they are launched at a certain point and we can feel the pride and the freedom in that they're also right back. And I mean all of the people I know who are like 18 to 22, are your daughters 18 and 22?

Sharon: They are. One of them still lives at home. The other one moved round the corner. See, which I do love, you know, I get it. I just thought it was really funny.

Drew: What, tell me.

Sharon: Well, just my daughter wanted to move back in to the house, but I'd given her room away to my youngest daughter, and I mean, I'm glad it worked out that way because she, you know, she got a job and she's still at uni, so she has to, you know, hustle a bit. But if she had moved back in, I don't know, it wouldn't have been as good for us, like we are.

Drew: But how do you say no because -

Sharon: You don't really, I didn't really say no, I was just kind of like your room is gone and the thing is though, like we get on so much better since she moved out. You know, because it's a lot. I mean you know, a 22 year old girl and a woman who's well into her 50s are kind of, I mean I guess we're kind of dealing with that on the show really. There's a, you have a lot more in common with them than you think.

Drew: You're in the new season of 'Only Murders in the Building.' In London.

Sharon: Yeah, they're doing it in London. Steve Martin and Martin Short and, and Selena and Meryl and it blew my mind, like honestly, I didn't know how to, I didn't know how to be like the first day filming with Steve, it was a scene, he was the most textbook Steve Martin you could ever be, and I was just, you know, agog the whole time just sitting around and watching Martin Short and him shooting the breeze and then when I met Meryl and she came and I was like 'How am I going to talk to Meryl Streep?' I don't know how, and then she spotted me and she did this and she came over and hugged me and said her and her daughters had been watching 'Bad Sisters' and then I just thought, well, this is the best you could get, so I'm just gonna go and hide now cause it's only gonna get worse from here, I'll say something stupid and she'll go hm, 'Not as cool as I as I thought.' So I was just, I just sort of stayed away.

Drew: Well good for you and your restraint. I would definitely do the too far and drive someone away.

Drew: You knew Carrie a little bit from working on 'Catastrophe.' And did you have a meal with her before, right before -

Sharon: Before she died, it was just honestly a couple of nights before it was her last night in London and like I think about it a lot cause I so almost didn't go. She was having dinner with Salman Rushdie and I was like 'I feel too stupid to have dinner with you and Salman Rushdie,' and she was like, 'It's fine, he just, he'll just talk about girls' and so I went out and we had this amazing evening together and like really talked, it was, it was odd, you know, because she kind of opened up about you know how she felt about actually aging in this industry and how people perceived her and who she was supposed to be and who she really was and it was a mad like really beautiful conversation that, do you know I'm just really grateful for. Yeah, so she was a great gift giver, right, and so that night she got me this kind of really cute little a cocktail maker and she got him a little pair of chocolate breasts.

Drew: Well, there you go. Give them what they want.
