Everyday Extraordinary: Al Campbell Connects Community Organizations with Critical Funding

Seeing an Opportunity to Help

When Al Campbell learned that the Federal Home Loan Bank of New York had funds available through its Small Business Recovery Grant Program, he immediately thought about the local community organizations serving people across our regions.

While grant funding isn't part of his day-to-day responsibilities as corporate treasury operations director, Al recognized an opportunity to support Excellus BlueCross BlueShield's mission and help strengthen the communities we serve. Knowing the Community Investments and Partnerships (CIP) team works closely with community-based organizations, he took the initiative to make a connection.

Turning Awareness into Action

Al didn't stop at sharing the information. He worked with the CIP team to identify eligible organizations and stayed engaged, ensuring that the five community-based organizations Excellus BCBS recommended were funded. Thanks to his perseverance, each CBO received $10,000 in unrestricted funding, bringing $50,000 directly into local communities where it can be used to meet the greatest needs.

"Having worked for the health plan for 30 years, supporting our mission and finding ways to give back to our communities is incredibly rewarding," said Al. "When you can help organizations access resources that allow them to continue serving people who need it most, that's something meaningful."

Everyday Extraordinary in Action

Al's efforts are a powerful example of living our mission beyond the scope of a job description.

His commitment to local organizations, combined with his willingness to go above and beyond his everyday responsibilities, demonstrates what it means to be Everyday Extraordinary.
