Burbank PD News Release: False Bomb Threat at Burbank High School

Burbank PD News Release: False Bomb Threat at Burbank High School

Classes have resumed at Burbank High School following a false bomb threat.

On Wednesday, April 1, 2026, at about 2:35 p.m., Burbank Police officers responded to a reported bomb threat at Burbank High School, located at 902 North Third Street.

School administrators reported receiving a phone call from an unidentified individual who claimed explosive devices had been placed on campus and demanded money. The caller appeared to use a voice-modulating device and disconnected after a brief conversation.

Out of an abundance of caution, school officials immediately evacuated students and staff. Burbank Police officers conducted a thorough, systematic search of the campus, but no explosive devices or credible threats were located.

Investigators determined the phone number used in the incident is not associated with a registered cellular provider and has been linked to a prior "swatting" incident reported by another law enforcement agency.

The Burbank Police Department reminds the public that misuse of the 911 system is a criminal offense under California law. It is a misdemeanor to use 911 for any purpose other than reporting a legitimate emergency. Additionally, if an individual is injured or killed as a result of a false report, the offense may be charged as a felony.

The Department takes all false emergency reports seriously and will pursue criminal and civil accountability for any individual responsible for initiating a false emergency response.
