Full Stride: Bulldog Nation and Community Partners Power Annual 5K

On Sunday, May 17, Bulldog Nation came out in full force on a beautiful day to participate in the third annual Bulldog 5K Walk/Run in support of Bowie State's student-athletes.

More than 80 walkers and runners laced up their sneakers in this year's event, honoring the late Clyde Doughty, Jr. His legacy of leadership and dedication to the university's athletics, students and the community continue to inspire.

Steve Stephens, philanthropy officer in the Division of Philanthropic Engagement thanked the staff, faculty, alumni, community members and friends who supported the university and contributed to making this event a success. He also recognized the 5K sponsors including The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission and the Chesapeake Baysox for their generous support.

"The family of Clyde Doughty, Jr. attended, adding a meaningful connection to our community and history."

Proceeds from the 5K directly support the Department of Athletics to empower Bowie State's student-athletes to succeed in the classroom and in competition.

Jolisa Williams, interim vice president for intercollegiate athletics and recreation, called the day an incredible success.

"Seeing Bulldog Nation show up with such energy and pride is what makes this day so special. The support generated through this event directly strengthens our ability to provide student-athletes with the tools they need to succeed on and off the field."

Brent Swinton, vice president for philanthropic engagement, said the annual event shows how the Bowie State community supports one another inside and outside the classroom.

"The energy and turnout for this year's Bulldog 5K were truly inspiring. It reflects the deep pride our community has in Bowie State and our shared commitment to uplifting our student-athletes."
