FWACC celebrates 45 adoptions at MEGA Adoption Event

Fort Worth Animal Care & Control is proud to celebrate 45 dog adoptions at the Humane Society of North Texas' MEGA Adoption Event this weekend. Over the course of two days, nearly 1,000 adoptable animals were brought together under one roof, giving families the opportunity to meet pets from shelters across North Texas. For dozens of FWACC dogs, the event marked the beginning of a new chapter in a loving home.

Among the adopters were Ashley and Michael Hailey, who lost their 17-year-old dachshund in January. The couple, who proudly describe themselves as "foster fails," have opened their hearts and home to many animals over the years. Within the past year, they've had to say goodbye to two beloved senior pets.

Although they attended the event thinking they would simply look around, a wide-eyed Great Pyrenees had other plans.

"I didn't even intend on adopting a dog, because I'm still heartbroken," Michael said. "We were getting ready to leave, but she came up to me a little bit and something about her, I just fell in love."

The Haileys said they met many wonderful dogs throughout the day, but one stood out from the rest. Molly.

"There was something about Molly, I liked this dog!" Michael said.

While they weren't looking to replace the pets they had lost, they recognized they still had plenty of love to give.

"Why would a dog stay in a shelter - they don't belong here," Ashley said. "We'll give her a loving home and carry on the tradition of always having a dog in our house. Molly's gonna get that love."

The couple decided to keep their new companion's shelter name, which was inspired by the City of Fort Worth mascot.

The event was a tremendous success. A total of 833 animals found homes during this year's MEGA Adoption Event, including 491 dogs, 334 cats and eight small animals.

FWACC is grateful to every adopter, volunteer, rescue partner and staff member who helped make the weekend possible. Most importantly, hundreds of pets now have the opportunity to begin their next chapter with families of their own.
