Johnson County's Winter Weather Guide can help residents weather this weekend's storm

Johnson County has an online Winter Weather Guide, available at jocogov.org/snow, that can serve as a helpful resource for residents during the upcoming weather event.

The Winter Weather Guide provides closing and cancellation updates, information about snow removal, locations of warming centers, winter weather safety tips and links to other resources.

Within the Guide, residents can access an address look-up tool to determine whether roadway snow removal services are provided by the county or by an area city.

County snow removal service in unincorporated areas:

  • Johnson County Public Works plows roads in unincorporated areas of the county.
  • Crews will work alternating 12-hour shifts until the roads are in good shape.

Snow removal priorities:

  • Arterial roads and those with hills, bridges, shaded driving surfaces or super-elevated curves receive priority for snow removal.
  • Crews will begin on collector roadways and residential streets once arterials are complete.
  • Gravel roads will only be plowed when snow accumulations exceed three inches.
