Governor Lombardo Renews Partnership to Support Outdoor Recreation and Public Lands in Nevada

LAS VEGAS, Nev. - Today, Governor Joe Lombardo, along with state and federal partners, renewed the Nevada Agreement for Recreation Shared Stewardship, continuing a statewide partnership focused on improving outdoor recreation opportunities, supporting responsible use of Nevada's public lands, and strengthening Nevada's outdoor recreation economy.

First signed in 2022, the agreement brings together state and federal agencies responsible for managing public lands, recreation, transportation, tourism, and natural resources across Nevada. The renewed agreement continues that coordination and establishes shared priorities for recreation planning and stewardship.

"Nevada's public lands are an important part of our state's identity, our economy, and our quality of life," said Governor Joe Lombardo. "By working together through Shared Stewardship, we can improve access to outdoor recreation while supporting rural communities, local businesses, and an industry that contributes billions of dollars to Nevada's economy."

More than 80 percent of Nevada is federally managed, making coordination between state and federal agencies critical to recreation planning and public land management. Through the Shared Stewardship partnership, agencies can work together on recreation priorities, share information and resources, identify funding opportunities, and coordinate projects across jurisdictional boundaries.

"As chairman of the Advisory Board on Outdoor Recreation, I commend Governor Lombardo for recognizing the value of our public lands and outdoor spaces and for taking action to ensure they remain accessible and welcoming," said Lieutenant Governor Stavros Anthony. "Investing in outdoor recreation means investing in healthy communities, local economies, and the great quality of life we all enjoy in Nevada."

The renewed partnership comes as new economic data highlights the growing importance of outdoor recreation to Nevada. A recent economic impact analysis commissioned by the Nevada Division of Outdoor Recreation found that outdoor recreation:

• Generates $13.7 billion in annual economic output across Nevada and the Lake Tahoe Basin;
• Supports more than 75,000 jobs;
• Contributes $8.8 billion to GDP across the study area; and
• Provides nearly 40 percent of its economic benefits to Nevada's rural counties, which account for approximately 10 percent of the state's population.

The agreement focuses on three primary goals:

• Strengthen coordination and planning among state and federal partners to identify shared recreation priorities, leverage resources, and pursue funding opportunities.
• Support Nevada communities and the outdoor recreation economy by improving access to a variety of high-quality recreation opportunities across the state.
• Promote responsible recreation and stewardship through coordinated education and outreach that encourages visitors to enjoy Nevada's public lands responsibly.
  Since the agreement was first signed, participating agencies have worked together on recreation planning and projects across the state, creating a foundation for continued collaboration as Nevada's communities grow and demand for outdoor recreation continues.

The Nevada Agreement for Recreation Shared Stewardship includes signatories from the following State and Federal agencies:

• U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service,
• Bureau of Land Management, and
• National Park Service.
