Washington, D.C. - Today, Senate Democratic Chuck Schumer (D-NY) released a Broken Promises report detailing how the disastrous policies of the Trump administration have led to worse outcomes for Americans across the country, particularly those enrolled in Medicaid, those who rely on the ACA, and those who pay for job-based insurance.

As health care costs soar and millions lose coverage, Senate Democratic Chuck Schumer (D-NY) today released a new "Broken Promises" report exposing how the Trump administration's policies have led to skyrocketing health care costs while making care less accessible. Republicans slashed over $1 trillion from the health care system to pay for tax cuts for billionaires and big corporations, and as a result, families are now paying more for health care but getting less.

On the campaign trail, President Trump said, "prices will come down. You just watch: They'll come down, and they'll come down fast, not only with insurance, with everything." Republicans enacted the largest health care cuts in history by slashing Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act (ACA); ripped away health care from 15 million people; and have put more than 750 hospitals, nursing homes, and clinics at risk.

Additionally, President Trump suggested he would bring down the price of prescription drugs, at one point saying he negotiated to "reduce the prices on drugs and pharmaceuticals by 400 to 600%." But in reality, most Americans will not see any savings.

"Republicans have sided again and again with billionaires and special interests, all at the expense of American families. Now, over a year into Trump's term, and the American people are paying more and getting less for health care," said Leader Schumer. "Because of Republicans' cruelty, millions have become uninsured, forgoing coverage rather than bankrupting themselves paying for rising premiums. Simply put: Republicans' cuts are already devastating families, and Democrats will continue exposing the depravity of Trump's policies. We are going to keep fighting to make sure the American people know who is on their side-and who is siding with the wealthy and well-connected."

The new "Broken Promises" report details how the Republican cuts harm people with Medicaid, threaten people who rely on the ACA, and raise costs for people with job-based insurance. The report also highlights how Trump's policies will not bring down drug costs for most Americans. Next week, Democrats will roll out a vision for remaking our health care system, making it affordable, easier, more accessible.

This report is part of Senate Democrats' year-long initiative to address the cost of living crisis Trump and Republicans have created. So far, Democrats have focused on the rising cost of housing, historic food and grocery prices, and skyrocketing energy costs.
