DUI Driver Taken Into Custody After Attempting to Flee from Officers

Officer Daniel Strassenberg, PIO

Tuesday, May 12, 2026 at 12:16 p.m.

In the early morning hours of May 4th, 2026, SPD patrol officers working in the Downtown area observed a Dodge Charger travelling west on Sprague Avenue near Bernard. The officer recognized the vehicle from a previous incident where the car fled from an attempted traffic stop.

As officers initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle, it fled the area at a high rate of speed. The suspect vehicle drove into an area near Main and Pine, just east of Downtown. The suspect vehicle failed to yield to the patrol vehicle attempting to stop it. As the vehicle turned around at a high rate of speed and began driving towards the patrol car, there was concern a collision would occur.

As the vehicle drove past the patrol vehicle, the officer disengaged from the attempted stop for safety reasons, turning off his emergency lights. Due to the high rate of speed and erratic driving, the suspect vehicle lost control and crashed, coming to a complete stop.

As officers quickly detained the driver, they noticed signs of possible impairment. The driver of the vehicle, 32-year-old Trevon L. McLemore was taken into custody for Attempting to Elude a Police Vehicle and DUI. McLemore was later booked into the Spokane County Jail.
