NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ (October 7, 2026) - The City of New Brunswick recognizes that some residents may be facing the difficult and stressful prospect of eviction. During these challenging circumstances, the City wants to ensure that residents have access to the best available information, assistance and resources to help them understand their options and navigate the eviction process.
The State's New Jersey Eviction Guide is an interactive online resource designed to help tenants better understand the eviction process, their rights and responsibilities, and the steps they can take based on their individual circumstances. The guide provides information about preparing for court, potential legal defenses and available eviction-prevention resources.
Residents can access the New Jersey Eviction Guide at https://evictionguide.dca.nj.gov/en
Tenants who need legal assistance can also use DCA's Eviction Legal Representation/Get Help resource, which connects individuals facing or threatened with eviction with available legal and housing assistance. Eligible low-income New Jersey tenants may qualify for free legal advice or representation.
Legal assistance information is available at https://evictionguide.dca.nj.gov/en/gethelp
"Facing the possibility of eviction can be an extremely difficult and stressful experience, and residents should know that resources are available to help them understand their rights and identify possible assistance," said New Brunswick Mayor Jim Cahill. "We encourage anyone facing a housing crisis to seek assistance as early as possible. These resources can help residents better understand the process and connect them with organizations equipped to provide legal and housing support."
The Eviction Guide can also connect tenants with resources in Middlesex County that may provide services such as case management, social services support, assistance with rental arrears or relocation, and legal advice or representation.
New Brunswick residents who need additional housing assistance or have questions, may contact the PRAB Housing Coalition Division (Fair Housing Services) at (732) 249-9700.
Residents are encouraged to seek assistance as soon as they become aware of a potential eviction or housing problem and should not wait until a scheduled court date to explore the resources that may be available to them.
The New Jersey Eviction Guide provides general information and guidance and is not a substitute for legal advice or legal representation.
