On January 21, 2026, H. E. Wang Di, Chinese Ambassador to Canada, conducted an exclusive interview with the Canadian Press, a Canadian national news agency. He briefed on the meeting between the leaders of the two countries and Prime Minister Mark Carney's visit to China, and answered questions on China-Canada relations, practical cooperation in various fields, the Taiwan question and global governance, among other topics.
Ambassador Wang pointed out that Prime Minister Carney's visit demonstrates that China-Canada relations have entered a new era of building a new strategic partnership. The meeting between President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Carney has charted the course for the development of China-Canada relations. The two sides reached multiple important consensuses and achieved fruitful outcomes, which have been highly praised by the people of both countries. Both sides should work promptly to implement the important leaders' consensuses and deliver tangible benefits to both peoples.
Ambassador Wang stated that both China and Canada advocate for adherence to multilateralism, free trade and a rules-based multilateral trading system, and oppose "double standards" and "the law of the jungle." China is willing to strengthen communication and coordination with Canada on global governance to jointly uphold international fairness and justice.
