The City of Tallahassee has once again received the Government Finance Officers Association's (GFOA's) Distinguished Budget Presentation, marking the 41st consecutive year earning this recognition. This award reflects the City's commitment to upholding the highest principles of governmental budgeting. Additionally, the City received special recognition for its Financial Policies and Capital Program, achieving the highest possible score in these criteria.
"Receiving this national recognition for the City's budget, following a thorough review by a panel of independent reviewers, reflects the exceptional work of staff and our continued commitment to fiscal transparency," Deputy City Manager Karen Jumonville said. "The City of Tallahassee continues to set the standard for excellence in public service."
To earn the award, the City had to meet or exceed nationally recognized standards that measure how well an organization's budget serves as a policy document, financial plan, operations guide and communications device. Budget documents must be rated "proficient" in all four categories, as well as in the 14 mandatory criteria within those categories.
The GFOA advances excellence in government finance by providing best practices, professional development, resources and practical research for more than 22,500 members and the communities they serve. GFOA award recipients have pioneered efforts to improve the quality of budgeting and provide an excellent example for other governments throughout North America.
