A new space has opened on the StFX campus that's dedicated to supporting, empowering, and inspiring women in business.
The Schwartz Women & Business Hub officially launched September 18, a new initiative that fourth year Schwartz School of Business student Erica Cameron has been working on this year.
"The idea for the Hub came from recognizing that while there are strong networks and initiatives at Schwartz, there wasn't a dedicated, visible space for women in business to connect, collaborate, and be supported. I wanted to create something that would not only highlight women's leadership and successes but also serve as a day-to-day resource for students," Ms. Cameron says.
"Additionally, women are a minority group within the Schwartz School, and strengthening our community is so important. This is a place for the StFX and Schwartz community to connect, mentor, and grow from each other."
The Hub is located in Schwartz Room 281 and is designed as an open, accessible space for all students. It will operate as both a drop-in area and an event venue.
Societies, groups, and individuals are encouraged to host workshops, networking sessions, and casual meetups in the space. There will also be regular programming and events focused on leadership, mentorship, and more.
The Hub is meant to adapt to student needs and provide an environment where collaboration, learning, and community can thrive.
Ms. Cameron says she hopes the Hub becomes a catalyst for connection and growth.
"My vision is that it provides a welcoming place for students to access mentorship, develop confidence, and feel part of a community. The impact I want to see is for women in business at Schwartz to feel celebrated and supported, and for the wider student body to have a space that sparks collaboration and inclusivity. While this is a Schwartz initiative, it is open and welcome to everyone's use."
She is excited about the potential the Hub holds.
While it may just be a physical space, she believes it has the power to spark ideas, foster collaboration, celebrate achievements, and build a strong sense of community.
"I am also so excited to see students using the space in creative ways, whether that's hosting events, holding study sessions, or simply dropping in to connect with others. For me, the most rewarding part will be watching the Hub evolve through the students who make it their own."
