In House Meeting with H.E Dr. Ramazan Erdag, President of the Center for Strategic Research of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkiye

The Centre for Afghanistan, Middle East and Africa (CAMEA) at the Institute of Strategic Studies (ISSI) hosted a meeting with a delegation from the Republic of Turkiye. The delegation included, H.E Dr. Ramazan Erdag, President of the Center for Strategic Research of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkiye, the Ambassador of Turkiye to Pakistan is Dr. Irfan Neziroglu Ismail Numan Telci, Professor, Ibn Haldun University and Mehmet Kose, Third Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkiye. The meeting was attended by Ambassador Khalid Mahmood, Chairman BOG, ISSI, Dr. Amina Khan, Director, CAMEA and members of the research team.
Ambassador Khalid Mahmood, while expressing his views stated that it is important to recall the past as Pakistan has a long history of enduring friendship with Turkiye. He said that both countries have collaborated bilaterally as well as at multilateral forums. He further said that the innate feelings of brother hood between the people of Turkiye and the subcontinent predate the existence of Pakistan. In order to further strengthen these ties the need for enhanced cooperation between the think tanks of both the countries was stressed upon.
Dr. Amina Khan, in her remarks, was of the view that both countries need to renew, reinvigorate and strengthen contacts and take the relationship forward. She underscored the importance of sustained institutional engagement, enhanced policy coordination, and regular dialogue at multiple levels to further deepen bilateral understanding and cooperation.
H.E. Dr. Ramazan Erdag, stated that the relationship between Turkiye and Pakistan is exceptional and appreciated the role of the ISSI as a bridge between academia and policy makers. He also said that the need to renew and strengthen this relationship is important. He further emphasized the significance of expanding cooperation in areas of mutual interest through continued dialogue, academic exchanges, and closer institutional engagement.
Ambassador Irfan Neziroglu underscored that the longstanding relationship between Pakistan and Türkiye is rooted in mutual trust, shared historical bonds, and close cooperation on regional and international issues. He emphasized that sustained engagement between academic and policy institutions is essential for further strengthening bilateral understanding and advancing cooperation in areas of common interest.
The discussion concluded with a shared commitment to further strengthening Pakistan-Turkiye relations through sustained dialogue, institutional cooperation, and enhanced people-to-people exchanges. The participants also reaffirmed the importance of continued engagement between think tanks and policy institutions.
