The Pioneers Park Nature Center, 3201 S. Coddington Ave., invites families and young adventurers to connect with the outdoors through two October programs designed to inspire exploration, learning, and fun. The schedule is as follows:
Saturday, October 11: Family Nature Camp, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Families are invited to spend a full day immersed in nature. Participants will begin with a guided nature hike and a visit to a special "Magic Spot," followed by archery and Gaga ball games suitable for all ages. After a bring-your-own lunch, campers can enjoy hands-on activities like creek exploration and canoeing before finishing the day with a camp-provided snack.
This engaging day is perfect for families seeking quality time together in a relaxed, outdoor setting. The cost is $20 per adult, which includes admission for two youth ages 5 through 18, with an additional child allowed for $7 (limit one additional child). Pre-registration is required, and families are encouraged to dress for outdoor activities and weather conditions, including closed-toed shoes.
Monday, October 13, and Tuesday, October 14: Explorers Nature Day Camps, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
These camps offer elementary-aged children in kindergarten through fifth grade the chance to hike, explore, and learn about the natural world with caring staff guiding each day's adventures. Campers will spend most of their time outdoors, weather permitting, engaging with nature through hands-on activities that foster curiosity and environmental awareness.
Participants should bring lunch, water, and extra clothes and shoes for a day full of exploration. Held at the Lynn Johnson Education Building, the daily camp fee is $48. Extended hours from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. are available.
