Cathy Williams Elected Secretary of the State Transportation Board of Georgia

ATLANTA, GA - Cathy Williams has been elected secretary of the Georgia State Transportation Board (STB) during the board's monthly meeting held on Thursday, August 20. Also elected to the board's executive leadership team were Dennis McEntire as chair and Tim Golden as vice chair. The new positions are effective immediately. Board elections are held annually to ensure all regions of the state are represented at the executive leadership level on the board.

First elected to the STB in 2023, Secretary Williams represents Georgia's 2nd Congressional District (CD 2), which encompasses Baker, Bibb, Calhoun, Chattahoochee, Clay, Crawford, Decatur, Dooly, Dougherty, Early, Grady, Houston, Lee, Macon, Marion, Miller, Mitchell, Muscogee, Peach, Quitman, Randolph, Schley, Seminole, Steward, Sumter, Talbot, Taylor, Terrell, Thomas and Webster counties. With an extensive background in construction and housing, Secretary Williams served for nine years as Executive Director of Greater Columbus Home Builders Association and was the founding president and CEO of Neighborhood Works Columbus, a nationally recognized non-profit housing provider serving low-to-moderate income families. She also previously served as District 7 representative on the Muscogee County School District Board of Education, on the Columbus Transportation Improvement Committee, the Georgia Department of Labor Workforce Investment Board, the Board of Historic and Architectural Review, the Columbus Technical College Board of Directors, the Housing Authority of Columbus, and the West Central Georgia Hospital Foundation. Secretary Williams holds a degree in political science and public administration from Troy University. Her current term will expire April 2028.

The 14-member State Transportation Board is responsible for setting policies and governing the Georgia Department of Transportation. Board members are elected by a caucus of Georgia General Assembly members from their respective congressional districts and serve staggered, five-year terms.
