IMMEDIATE RELEASE March 30, 2026 RPNM Statement on the rise in political threats of violence Albuquerque, NM - Chairwoman Barela released an official statement on the recent threats of violence on display at the No Kings protests over the weekend, which included a death threat to ICE officers at a protest in Los Angeles: "By choosing not to condemn these inexcusable actions, Democrats are playing right into the hands of those who wish to commit political violence," said Chairwoman Barela. "Whether it's spray-painting 'kill your local ICE agent' at a No Kings protest or staying silent when American citizens are murdered by illegal immigrants, Democrats are setting a very dangerous precedent in our country, and Americans deserve better. New Mexico deserves better." "As this issue is deeply personal for millions of Americans, it is just as personal for the Republican Party of New Mexico. One year ago, our headquarters was firebombed by someone who targeted us and was motivated by political ideology. Rep. Teresa Leger Fernández called on her supporters to 'agitate' in a speech just days prior to the attack on our office. As there has been a rise in the demonization of our federal law enforcement officers, it is even more important that elected Democrats rebuke and condemn violent, disturbing actions by their supporters. Recently, RPNM called on all five members of New Mexico's congressional delegation to condemn the murder of an 83-year-old Air Force veteran who was pushed onto train tracks by an illegal immigrant, and we have not heard a single word from any of them. Refusing to call this out simply makes our country, and our great state, less safe." ### |
